This workshop focuses on advanced technologies related to signal processing and machine learning technologies for novel medical application. Successful examples include long-distance health care, precise mental and perception status analysis by EEG, MEG, and fMRI, image processing for PET, and advanced hearing assistive listening devices. One of the objectives of this workshop is to present biomedical applications that employ state-of-the-art signal processing and machine learning technologies. The other main purpose is to promote interdisciplinary collaborations between researchers in the fields of biology and signal processing and machine learning technologies for novel medical applications.

We are particularly interested in signal processing, machine learning, and their applications. Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • New theory for signal processing and machine learning
  • Health care
  • Smart home and environments
  • Acoustic signal processing and hearing assistive devices
  • Big data and cloud computing
  • Content analysis and mining of data
  • Mobile computing and its application
  • Novel and incentive applications of big data in various fields (e.g., indoor localization, life sciences, manufacturing, transportation, and mobile advertisement)
